March 3rd, 2008
The Pats are on top! Camille Glymph played a vital role in helping the JL Mann Lady Pats win their third consecutive AAA State Championship this past Saturday defeating Myrtle Beach. Congratulations to Camille and the Lady Patriots! Camille was also voted Performance QSA Athlete of the Month for February due to her commitment not only on the court, but to her training. Even though she was in-season, Camille continued to train with QSA 2-3 days a week, which really helped keep her fitness levels up and her game fine tuned. Congrats are in order for Camille all across the board.

Performance QSA client Jon Leathers posts one of the fastest 30-yard dash times!
Jan. 31, 2008
QSA client Jonathan Leathers was taken in the 2nd Round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft and went to camp very prepared. Leathers finished with one of the fastest times in the 30-yard dash at training and was seen zipping around the field, adding quickness to the Wizards defensive core. A graduate of Furman, Leathers comes from the same school as former QSA clients Clint Dempsey (Fulhamerica forward/midfielder) and Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo holding midfielder). Leathers & Salinas Selected in MLS SuperDraft

QSA clients Salinas, Leathers Selected In MLS SuperDraft Second Round.
San Jose Tabs Salinas With 15th Pick, Leathers To Kansas City With 25th Selection.
Jan. 18, 2008
Performance QSA client Shea Salinas was selected by San Jose with the 15th overall pick and Performance QSA client Jon Leathers was taken by the Kansas City Wizards with the 25th overall selection in the second round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft in Baltimore, Md.
The pair of Furman Paladin all-americans drew rave reviews at the MLS Combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Salinas, a midfielder from Grapevine, Texas, was tabbed by ESPN.com writer Jen Chang as the player who most improved his draft stock entering the selection process in Baltimore. Salinas, who played all three matches in Fort Lauderdale with a broken bone in his face was cited for his tremendous speed and willingness to take on defenders one-on-one. The San Jose Earthquakes are an expansion franchise who will join MLS this season after the city's original franchise moved to Houston, Texas, several years ago.
Leathers, who played center back during most of his Furman career, excelled at right back and scored a goal as he and Salinas led their team to a 3-0 record at the event. The two-time Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year and first team College Soccer News All-America selection joins a Kansas City framchise that finished 11-12-7 and grabbed the final playoff spot from the Eastern Conference this past season. He was invited by coach Peter Nowak to join the United States Under-23 National Team in December and earned his first playing time for his country in a friendly in China last month.
Leathers and Salinas helped guide Furman to a 19-4-0 overall record and No. 20 national ranking this past season. The Paladins captured the SoCon regular season and tournament crowns while earning the school's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2002. Furman topped Campbell 2-0 in the opening round of the tournament before falling at eventual national champion Wake Forest in round two.
Leathers was named All-SoCon for the fourth straight season and was a unanimous All-American selection while Salinas garnered both NSCAA/adidas All-America and Academic All-America honors.

Haven Bruce One Step Away From Goal
|
Bruce invited into training camp with Atlanta Silverbacks First Division
Jan. 29, 2008
By Vaughn Bethell
Haven Bruce has been training with Performance QSA for a couple years now with one original goal in mind...Play professional soccer! When Haven first came to me and told me that he wanted to make a last go at it to play professionally, I honestly thought to myself...Good Luck. At 5'9" tall, Haven weighed in at 205lbs. For those of you who are soccer players, you know that 205lbs is not an ideal weight for a professional soccer player. It was going to be a tough task.
So we got started! Haven may not have had the physical attributes at the time to play professional ball, but he did have the heart and determination. It was very hard for him at the beginning, especially because he was so badly out of shape. There were plenty of times that he wanted to quit, but I wouldn't let him. Haven trained 5 to 6 days a week with us at QSA and I've got to hand it to him...He stuck with it.
During his journey, Haven did get selected to a professional squad, the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL Second Division. However, with the birth of his son Jackson, Haven left the team to come be a part of his son's life. Putting his son first, he decided that the only way that he would play soccer again is if he could earn a spot on the Atlanta Silverbacks of the USL First Division. So once again, we were back at it. Only this time, there was much more motivation...a better life for his son.
Haven is now 165lbs, very lean, and faster and stronger than he's ever been. He sent in his tryout registration packet for the Silverbacks and has been playing with the Performance FC Phoenix semi-professional squad in preparation for his tryouts. With the Phoenix, Haven is the leading scorer and was one of only 2 players in the nation selected for an automatic bid to the PASL All-Star Game.
Haven attended the Silverbacks Open Tryout during the weekend of January 26th. Out of the 50 players trying out, only one was invited into camp...You got it...Haven Bruce!!! While Haven has not been offered a contract yet, being invited into training camp is a HUGE and promising step. This just goes to show that dreams can be achieved if you have the right mindset, work ethic, passion, and determination. I would like to congratulate Haven and we know he will do very well!

Leathers Named To United States Under-23 National Team Roster
Team Begins Training In Carson, California, This Weekend.
Nov. 29, 2007
Performance QSA client Jon Leathers has been named as one of 22 players on head coach Peter Nowak's United States Under-23 National Team roster for training camp beginning this weekend at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Leathers, a senior from Athens, Ga., is the only current collegiate player on a roster that includes 20 professionals. The team will train for a week before embarking on a trip to China to face the Chinese U-23's on December 13 and 16, in preparation for final round action of the 2008 CONCACAF Men's Under-23 Championship to be held from March 11-23, 2008, in Los Angeles, Tampa and Nashville. The eight-team tournament will send the two finalists to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
"We are really proud of Jon and appreciate all he has done for our team over the past four years," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "This is a tremendous opportunity for him with the national team program. We all wish him the best with the national team and in his professional career.
Leathers, a two-time Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year and four-time All-SoCon pick for the Paladins, led Furman to the SoCon regular season and tournament titles this season. He helped Furman fashion a 19-4-0 record while earning an NCAA Tournament bid and no. 20 national ranking. Leathers is the first defender in league history to earn player-of-the-year honors twice.

Performance QSA Clients Get Recognized
|
November 2007

Performance QSA client Jon Leathers of Furman University was named Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year for the second straight season. Leathers, a three-time first team All-SoCon selection, became the first defender in league history to earn player-of-the-year honors in back-to-back seasons. The Athens, Ga., native has led a Paladin defense that ranks 16th in the nation in goals against average and has allowed just 11 goals all year.
Performance QSA client Blakely Mattern of the University of South Carolina earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Mattern picks up her second conference honor after earning second team All-SEC and All-Freshman team honors in 2005. She becomes the first South Carolina player to earn a conference Player of the Year honor. Mattern was a second team Freshman All-America selection by Soccer Buzz last season and was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team last week. Mattern has one goal and two assists on the season for four points.
Read this quote from Blakely's coach Shelley Smith. "The quality of the players that are listed on the All-SEC team is outstanding, and to have Blakely stand as the top defensive player is a true accomplishment and much deserved," Smith said. "Receiving the honor after her sophomore campaign makes it even more impressive. I think she is one of the best defenders in the country."
